Over 90% of treatments that pass animal testing fail in human trials
BSC advocates for research models and projects most likely to yield results that translate to the target population (the population that a study aims to help). We support scientific endeavors that will advance biomedical understanding of a condition or treatments for it. In equal measure, we support studies that operate within just guidelines and provide uniform protections for all research subjects; these should include respect for the bodily autonomy of each research subject, informed consent from participants or responsible guardians, and thoughtful consideration of the species-specific interests of all animals used in research. We believe that these values — rather than being in opposition to one another — can operate synergistically, providing better solutions for all living creatures. BSC will champion initiatives to develop ethical and effective research methods and will offer support to our allies.
BSC honors our peers in the scientific community and seeks to create safe spaces for constructive collaboration and respectful communication.
The Better Science Campaign (BSC) is founded on a shared vision for science that is effective, efficient, and free from exploitation.
More than 90% of investigative treatments that are successful in animal-based models fail when later evaluated in human clinical trials. This is a massive waste of resources and lives. If this money, time, and brainpower were applied to more effective models, all species — including humans — would benefit.
